My name is Bill Bishop. I work at the University Of Tennessee Department Of Art. I’ve been with the art department for 24 years going on 25. The thing I think is a big thrill for me is when I turned everything over to the lord and how much he really means to me. I’ll tell you what, it seems to me that, how I got influenced by turning to the lord is by gospel music, especially contemporary Christian, listening to people like Stephen Curtis Chapman, Points of Grace, Greg Long. I would say that’s the one type of thing that I really enjoy listening to but I really feel that that type of gospel is not really getting the type of respect it should because people are judging it because it’s rock and roll. People ought to just realize what is really important when it comes to a gospel song is much the music, it’s the message. I feel it’s the message because the message is spiritual, the message is great and the message is something that I feel could really move a person to introduce them to the lord. And that’s how I really feel about a lot of them artists that’s in the elite of contemporary Christian music. Several of them I really enjoy listening to are people like- I would say Cathy Coulee, Clay Cross another one the Ragga Muffin Band. I love them real well. Let’s see, plus several others. I really feel there’s a difference in the elite between contemporary Christian and southern gospel. A lot of the people feel that in southern gospel, their way of getting a person saved is through bluegrass, and through stuff like steel guitar and all that and I’m thinking “well maybe that’s true but hey, you just don’t judge something just by the beat of the music.” I really feel that it’s very spiritual and I would urge a lot of people that’s in to spiritual stuff that wants to listen- that’s mostly into rock and roll, just to listen to these artist and really know what they’re all about instead of criticizing them. Is my 5 minutes up? …Oh ok, another thing- of course I’d like to say something about myself. I’m single, I want to get married, I want to find a good Christian girl that loves the lord and she don’t always have to like contemporary Christian but you know a lot of the young- if she’s young and if she likes the stuff I like, which is fine. Everybody has their own taste. I really do feel that if I want to find someone that really believes in the Lord and really loves the Lord as much as I do. And I do thank the Lord for everything that he’s done for me, provided for me, having a good job, good friends, and good family. You know, just about good everything. So, I just thank him everyday for all that he has done for me.
