Jeez, my name is Brock. Here we are in Boulder, Colorado. Never really would have expected to end up here. I've been traveling the country for... well, gosh, since '89? '90? Something like that. I've been in Colorado for the last 10 years. I grew up in Chicago... punk rock kid, downtown. Found the Grateful Dead, found skiing, went on tour... skied in the winter, followed the Grateful Dead in the summer, basically throughout the '90s and wound up here in boulder for reasons beyond my control. And um... found many blessings here actually, I was very surprising... thing to find myself here. If I had to be stuck here, or had to be stuck in one place... Boulder- kick ass, man. So many opportunities that have arrived for me here that I would have expected if I hadn't stopped. Because I'm vagabond... and um... I learned how to blow glass while I was here and I'm a jeweler by trade, and you probably won't be able to see anything I do really effectively from this far away, but, been working with wire and stones for about 11 years and about 3 months ago I made the piece that was as close to the aesthetic vision I had come, you know, there it was in my head 11 years of work... cool. And I've been coming out the other end ever since and it's going great, like, people recognize what I just described and I learned how to blow glass about a year ago so I've been making little things to go with my jewelry and the combination of the two is going to prove I feel to be very beneficial to me in that I can... I will be able to in the future feed my family and buy the land and fulfill the dream in a creative manner on my own terms. And that's cool... Um, yeah. I'm actually a chef by trade. I've been working in kitchens since I was like, 12 years old and I'm 31 now, and, actually, I haven't worked in a kitchen for about a year and a half now. 2 years almost. I haven't even had a "real job" in almost a year now... I'm uh... broke as anything, but... it's pretty cool with the jewelry actually, I've finally gotten to a point where... well, the last few months I haven't been doing anything but making jewelry, so now I don't have any money but now my jewelry is cool enough so people want to buy it so it's all coming around. Um... Yeah, jeez, what else? Brock's life. I found the woman of my dreams here in Boulder as well. Can't forget that. It's all going great. All the opportunities are right here before me.. now it's just up to me, really, it's great. I'm in this relationship with this woman where... there's no doubt in either of our minds for every good reason that we're going to be together for the rest of our lives, and it takes away so many things and puts so many other things in place... our opportunities, our communications now never have a question as to whether or not... I'm saying the right thing or the wrong thing, you know, like if I say this is she going to be so disgusted with me that she's going to run away, 'cause that's not gonna happen, we can work so far beyond that... so that's good... Brock's life is looking pretty good right now. Actually, another part of it is as bad as it could get, right now, in this moment in time, this weekend, actually, is a juncture where the opportunities in my life are literally as bad as they've ever been... could be... as of Monday... or they could be as good as they've ever been... it's pretty strong one... I had anxiety for breakfast... um... yeah, I guess I got a couple more minutes here... yeah... That guy you interviewed earlier, Davien, this piece that I made for him... you'll never be able to see it very well for a long time... you'll need a little macro lens or something to really get what's going on here, this piece here represents my work as good as it gets. I was given an opportunity to make a piece of jewelry for someone who is... I knew from around, relatively a stranger though, and I channeled this piece, it's so brilliant, it really represents... everything I feel is important about what's happened in 11 years.
