I’m Carol G. and I’ve lived here in Sitka for 20 years, it’s really a nice place. And people have been real good to me. I have a mild form of epilepsy and I walk a lot and when I would have seizures on the streets and everything people have been real good, just to call an ambulance. I’ve never had anybody take anything out of my purse or anything. It’s just been wonderful. And I’ve had the seizures since the 5th grade but now theirs a chance I might get over them. The doctors are really thinking I might… end it all. And ah, I’ve at least, getting more and more so it doesn’t happen as often. And also, I just went through chemo, I had cancer. And I’m finally through the chemo and I’m really thankful through that, I never once got sick once through that chemo. And now they don’t think I have anymore cancer. So it’s really been a blessing. I’ve really got a lot to be thankful for. And theirs, when I first came here I was a single mother. And I raised my son here, and it was just wonderful for the way people were to him, lotta the men were like dad’s to him, real good to him. And he’s living in Juno now, but it’s… it’s been really a blessing to live here, people are like family to ya. They’ve been awfully good to me and I came from Spokan. My brother and sister in law invited me up here. And once I got here, I just couldn’t leave. People are so friendly to ya and things, it just makes it so nice. And I’ve worked here in this Library for ten years. Been wonderful, the people are so good to ya in here. I really enjoy the work I do. I used, I did work too at Sheldon Jackson College in the kitchen. And I worked there for 5 years. And it was a lot of fun, the people there were real good to work for too. But they decided I should quit, because they weren’t too sure that I’d be hit with a knife or something with my seizures, so they decided I better not work there any longer. Then I got the job here and it’s been a lot of fun. People are just really nice to you and everything here. And ah, and I try and get out, go on vacation every, every once in a while. I go during the summer for two weeks and I tried it at Christmas time, to go to Juno all the time. Spend that time with my son. And that’s been a lot of fun, and do some shopping there too. Cause that’s one thing we lack here is a lot of shops. So it’s kind of fun to go over there every one in a while and get some things to bring back. And this has really been a lot of fun. My mother once asked me what I’d do when my sister and brother move back to Idaho and she said ,“what are you going to do there? Their won’t be any family up there.” And I says “mom, theirs more family then you’ll ever know up here” cause I says “people are just like family to ya.” And ah, they really take care of you and everything, it’s really been nice. And I can say working in the library and everything, I’ve had my moments here. But people have been really good here. With my seizures once in a while, that can really be a problem. But I’m just thankful I’m about to get over them. And… this is… I don’t know exactly what else to say. Being a single mother, the people were awfully good to me. That was one thing that helped me an awful lot. And raising my son here and everything was really nice. Like I said people were just real good and helping out with even things just made it really nice. And I was always able to get the places to rent just right for the money I needed. First place I had was a 400 dollars a month rent and it was a two bedroom. And the people knew me and were willing to let me have it for 400. And I had a friend living with me for a while, she and I shared an apartment. And we really enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun.
