My name's Dusty J. I'm a Sergeant 1st Class retired from the United States Army. I'm a 100% service-connected disabled veteran. I'm one of the five congressional holders in this state. I have the congressional medal of honor. I won it in South Vietnam thirty years ago, 2 days ago. 2 days ago, thirsty years ago I won the medal. i was drafted into the military when i was 18. i've lived all over the world, my dad was a naval officer and I lived all over the world. in fact most of my family, in fact, only my father was born in the united states. I was born in (...) northern Singapore. My brother was born in italy, my sister was born in germany, and my mother's canadian. we have an international family just sittin' down at the supper table. i've been retried a little over 10 years now. I'm involved with the american legion, the VFW, the Amvets, 40 and 8, and most of the all the senior service member organizations. in fact if you're wonderin' why I'm a little dirty is I just got through spendin' the last five weeks before veteran's day out cleanin' off cemetery plots makin' sure all the guys got a flag and everything. my wife she's english, her father was a british colonel. So, kind of an international, an international family. I've lived here since I retired because this town of Norman, Oklahoma said home the first time I ever walked into it. I'm involved politically enough that the lady down at the voting booth place when I walk in knows me by name, she don't have to look in the book. And if you're wonderin' why the hair's so long on an old guy that retired from the military it's because most Vietnam veterans were illy treated at the end of the war. That railroad station down here, three blocks away, when I got off that train in 1972 the population around here spit on me and my friends and called us a bunch of bad names. There were 11 of us that left this six block area to go to that war. We're all sittin' at this table right now, all 11 of us because I'm the only one that got back. I believe that our country, since this is going' out on the INternet, hey folks since we're gettin' ready to start a new millennium. How 'bout let's start this one off right. Let's get rid of wars. And we'll donate the Grand Canyon to world peace and I'll throw my guns in first and everybody else throws their guns in afterwards. And we'll all sit down at a big table and try to learn to live with each other. Because all we're doin' in this world is killin' each other, fightin' over one bit a sand when all the world oughta get together and just go to the stars. There 30 years ago, we oughta have a village there now. We still got time? I'm still runnin' on time, I'm not much of a talker. I think we oughta get off this planet and stop killin' each other off, stop murderin' each other in the name of me me me I don't get what I want. And the vast majority of the population around here, while they're good and decent folks, don't obey all the laws they should. We have crime rate like you wouldn't believe in this area. Some parts of the city aren't safe to walk in after dark. This is America, this is the greatest place in the world. Most of the people who are gonna see this have probably never been in some of the 3rd world sewers I've been in. I'd rather be a homeless person here, a homeless, then the king of some the countries i been to. Cause it's that bad. place where, I mean, we always talk about the land of the free. Most people don't realize 2/5 of our, 2/5 of our world still has salves. Still has slavery. And they call 'em indentured servants or they amy be on a dole of some sort but there's salves. We're the 17th nation in the world for education. We used to number 1. We've got a 125,000 functional illiterate people in a city of only 1 million, that means 1 in 10 is illiterate. Why don't we stop doing that? Why don't we get together, and sit down and work the world out? 'Cause there's nothing any of us has got as far as problems that we couldn't work out just sittin' down. No matter which way you pray or how you call your god. It's all, we're all on the same boat on the same island. Let's jump off this island and get to this starts. Let's do somethin' this millennium before it's over with. Let's put an end to the wars in the world, let's try to do some good. Let's try to make the world a better place to live in so that you don't have no boy like me hobblin' around grouchy 30 years from. 30 years from now let's see if the kid doesn't know the word war or gun or violence. I hope I, I hope I didn't insult or offend either one of you 'cause of my opinions. I'm a little more vocal than most. But then again that's the reason that you let me talk every year and if you only change one person, I made the world a better place.
