I'm Linda B., and I was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1947. I've been in Boulder now for 20 years. I was born to teenage parents who abandoned me shortly after birth, and... but I was actually raised by my paternal grandmother, and then a series of my father's brothers and sisters all in Santa Monica, California. I became a writer at a fairly young age and I was supported by my teachers, though no one else, and I sort of lusted after fame and fortune being in the Hollywood area, so after high school I moved to the Hollywood hills and hung out with artists and writers for a period of time and then gradually kind of Crawled out of Los Angeles up to Santa Barbara and then smaller towns in northern California and then made my way to Oregon, to... Ashland, Oregon, another very small town, um, where I gave birth to my son, who is now 25. I think I spent most of my formative years trying to reconcile a very unhappy childhood with what my mission should be in life, and in that regard my son has been, um, a wonderful gift for me to try to explore what good health and, um, being an active participant in the community, what that means, and how to be with one another. I'm still a writer. I work in the medical research field writing up clinical trial results for pharmaceutical companies, and that's how I earn a living, but I also write fiction and I help to write a literary journal affiliated with University of Colorado... and, um, I also like um... music and dance [laughs] I used to be a go-go dancer when I was in my 20s in Hollywood. And, so... I still enjoy music a great deal and like singing with my friends who are musicians. I'm very fortunate in that I live in the hills outside of Boulder up on a dirt road, and my dog and my cat are key individuals in my life, they help to keep me rooted to the natural elements of life. I do volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes, and I also volunteer with the Boulder Community Network, which is a web-based non-profit organization, helping to teach people how to get on the Internet and explore all the wonderful information that's available from around the world. I mostly work with senior citizens who haven't done much with computers. And it's really nice to be involved with people who are older and yet still very curious about being involved with technological advances.... my goodness... and I love reading. I have my collection that I have at home of big library is also a source of companionship for me. My travels... I've done some traveling in Mexico and in Europe a few times, and my son is also bilingual now and so he's been living in Bogata, Colombia for a year, and I've recently went back to school to study some literature, and drama, and Spanish, and so he and I have had a chance to travel in Spain and in Mexico where I managed to get into trouble with my poor language skills and my son and also my Cuban friend who I like to travel with has helped me with my language... and it's very warm right now in Boulder... exceedingly warm for November, and it means that it's just a surprise to still be out and... out and about... Here... And I have no idea what else to say, except I'm very lucky to be alive and to be in Boulder.
