Sunday, September 5, 1999 - Gereon takes us on tour of Luther College. Walk with Frannie to waterfalls, along levee through Decorah. Hook up bus to Frannie's house. Set up equipment and edit in the bus for the first time

Monday, September 6, 1999 - Decorah, IA. Final Completion of "Living Documentary #1: Money" Watch Gereon's collection of Japanese animation tapes late into the night.

Tuesday, September 7, 1999 - Leave Decorah. Grotto of the Redemption near West Bend. Campsite on Lake Okoboji. Inaugurate the gas lamp and gas cooking stove. Cook spaghetti and open champagne bottle Sam Zolten gave us in Philly.

Wednesday, September 8, 1999 - Sioux Falls, SD find wiper blades for bus; meet elderly couple selling fresh, home-grown fruits and vegetables; at a gas station we see a truck loaded with terrified pigs whose driver checks out a noise coming from the bus for us. Another trucker talks to us about South Dakota and hauling hogs. Campsite in Lake Francis Case.

Thursday, September 9, 1999 - Lake Francis Case Campground, SD Visit St. Joseph's Akta Lakota Museum. At 1880's Town we gas up but then can't start bus. Call AAA. Bad conneciton to starter, so AAA pull-starts bus and follows us back to Murdo. Starter fixed, reach badlands at night. Camp in the park.

Friday, September 10, 1999 - Badlands National Park. Meet park ranger Doug. On-trail interviews with visitors. Hike up Saddle Pass Creek. Drive to Massacre at Wounded Knee site in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Gas and dinner at Pine Ridge. Sleep at campsite near Hot Springs.

Saturday, September 11, 1999 - Visit Crazy Horse National Monument. While driving to Black Hills, see a sign for German Fest. See people dancing and drinking German beer. Interview an elderly couple who founded the German Goodtime Club. Decide to drive all night, but as we ascend the mountains, realize we are low on gas and stop. Sleep in scenic view parking area near Buffalo Tongue peak on eastern side of Bighorn Mountains.
